¡Ay! que noche tan preciosa
es la noche de tu día
todo lleno de alegría
en esta fecha natal
Tus más íntimos amigos
esta noche te acompañan,
te saludan y desean
un mundo de felicidad.
Yo por mi parte deseo
lleno de luz este día,
todo lleno de alegría
en esta fecha natal.
Y que esta luna plateada
brille su luz para ti,
y ruego a Dios porque pases
un cumpleaños feliz.
¡Ay! what a precious night
It is the night of YOUR day
All full of pleasantness
On this the date of your birth.
Your closest friends
Will go with you tonight,
They will wish you health
And a world of happiness.
Me, for my part, I wish
That today be full of light,
All full of happiness
On this the date of your birth.
And that this silver moon
Shine its light for you
And I pray to God that you have
A Happy Birthday.
Say Happy Birthday or Cumpleaños Feliz with "Ay que Noche tan preciosa" to your Venezolano friends. The songwriter was Luis Cruz who penned the lines in 1953 in Los Chorros, a neighborhood in Caracas, Venezuela.
His goal that night was to impress his girlfriend (Rebeca) on her birthday. Emilio Arvelo is the singer that popularized it with his own version in the 60's y 70's. Okay, guys, how are you going to impress YOUR date?

Venezuelan Birthday Song Lyrics - Tambor Urbano
Un año mas en tu vida,
otro lleno de esperanza
que el señor te de alegría
y traiga paz a tu alma.
Para mí siempre es lo mismo,
un año menos, un año mas...
por eso yo te deseo hoy
en tu día felicidad...
¡Ay! que noche tan preciosa
es la noche de tu día
todo lleno de alegría
en esta fecha natal
Tus más íntimos amigos
esta noche te acompañan,
te saludan y desean
un mundo de felicidad.
Yo por mi parte deseo
lleno de luz este día,
todo lleno de alegría
en esta fecha natal.
Y que esta luna plateada
brille su luz para ti,
y ruego a Dios porque pases
un cumpleaños feliz.
Cumpleaños feliz te deseamos a ti..
Cumpleaños cumpleaños cumpleaños feliz...
Cumpleaños feliz,
te deseamos a ti
cumpleaños cumpleaños cumpleaños feliz..
cumpleaños feliz
te deseamos a ti
cumpleaños cumpleaños cumpleaños feliz!
Yo te dare te dare una cosa
te dare una cosa una cosa que yo solo se..
Yo te dare te dare una cosa
te dare una cosa una cosa que yo solo se.
Another year in your life,
Another full of hope
That God will give you happiness
And bring peace to your soul.
For me it is always the same,
one year more or one year less...
For this I wish for you today,
on your day of happiness...
¡Ay! what a precious night
It is the night of YOUR day
All full of pleasantness
On this the date of your birth.
Your closest friends
Will go with you tonight,
They will wish you health
And a world of happiness.
Me, for my part, I wish
That today be full of light,
All full of happiness
On this the date of your birth.
And that this silver moon
Shine its light for you
And I pray to God that you have
A Happy Birthday.
Happy Birthday to you..
Happy Birthday, birthday, birthday...
Happy Birthday, to you.
Happy Birthday, birthday, birthday...
Happy Birthday, to you.
Happy Birthday, birthday, birthday!
I will give you I will give you one thing
I will give you one thing, one thing that I know..
I will give you I will give you one thing
I will give you one thing, one thing that I know.
Tambor Urbano is a version of the other Venezuelan birthday song "Ay que noche tan preciosa" generally played at most birthdays in Venezuela and many other Caribbean countries, but with 2 extra verses. When the Spaniards brought slaves to Venezuela to work on the cacao farms, they were prohibited from displaying their religion and cultural activities and were had new beliefs imposed on them. Given their situation as slaves, they could only express themselves by singing "Tambor" as in this song, which resembles a samba but is more ancestral and traditional. Now it is not just their song, but it is the rhythym and beat of Venezuela and other countries.
Happy Birthday with the Venezuelan Birthday song "Tambor Urbano" - Venezuela
Obviously, we hope that our Venezuelan friends will celebrate their birthdays with "Ay que Noche tan preciosa" or "Tambor Urbano" and with our birthday song. That will really get the party started. Oh and it helps if you call your girlfriend/wife/sister/friend "Miss Mundo".
